20 of the Most Stunning Deals in World Football History

Six years ago on July 6, the Bernabeu was full to capacity for the unveiling of the one and only Cristiano Ronaldo as a Real Madrid player.
The Portuguese superstar had completed a then-world-record £80 million move from Manchester United, with his adoring public welcoming him to the club for whom he's now scored a scarcely believable 313 goals in 300 games.
The magnitude of the huge move still resonates today, but as this list shows, there have been plenty more stunning transfers down the years.

Nani failed to make the grade at Manchester United and played in shadow of Cristiano Ronaldo... his move to Fenerbahce is a convenient way to keep earning

Without wishing to disrespect football in Turkey, there are generally two reasons why players from the big European leagues tend to head east.
They are either at the end of their careers and seeking to extend their time playing at a reasonably high standard or they go there seeking wages they may not be offered elsewhere.

FC Barcelona goalkeeper Claudio Bravo, striker Lionel Messi, and midfielder Javier Mascherano were all
named to the 2015 Copa América team of the tournament by CONMEBOL, the governing body of South American football which organises the event. Bravo respresented Chile, which won this year's edition, while both Messi and Mascherano played for Argentina, which finished as the runner-up. The final was decided on penalty kicks.
Bravo, the Chile captain who only allowed one penalty kick to get past him at the end of the Final, also received the Golden Glove as the best goalkeeper of the competition.

Here's a look at the complete team:

Herrera posts first picture of Reds back in training

Manchester United’s players have started to return to the Aon Training Complex this week as pre-season preparations get under way, and Ander Herrera has posted the first picture of the Reds back in Manchester following the summer break.

These first few days back are a chance to renew acquaintances almost six weeks after the 2014/15 campaign came to a close. But the hard work starts soon as the Reds gear up for pre-season training, Tour 2015, presented by Aon, and the season’s big kick-off against Tottenham Hotspur on 8 August, confirmed today (Friday) as Saturday’s lunchtime curtain-raiser on the opening weekend of the season.
Ander’s selfie featured plenty of happy faces as he was joined by good friends Juan Mata, Antonio Valencia and Adnan Januzaj in the image posted on Instagram. Ander’s post reads: "Again together, looking forward to start the new season."
Valencia, who missed this summer's Copa America tournament after undergoing an operation to remove metalwork from an old injury in his leg, shared the picture with the comment: "[A] day of training with mates. Thank God, strength and heart."
Mata also posted the pic, adding: "Back in Manchester. Can’t wait for next season." And Januzaj commented: "Good to be back!"

Falcao in profile

Radamel Falcao shone from a very early age, setting a record for the youngest debutant in the Colombian second division.
It was not an isolated appearance either and during his first campaign the junior scored his first senior goal too. It was no surprise that within two years he moved onto the big stage in Argentina, joining the famous River Plate in 2001.
Naturally, Falcao stepped back down the age levels on arrival at the Buenos Aires club but after featuring regularly for the youth team, he was handed a first-team debut there in 2005.

With his predatory instincts in front of goal, the son of a former professional player quickly established himself as a regular in the side and in September 2007, scored a hat-trick against Botafogo, his first in the professional game. He followed it up a week later by netting the first of River’s two goals in a win over their massive rivals Boca Juniors.
Falcao was an integral member of the side under manager Diego Simeone, whom he would later work with again at Atletico Madrid. That, however, was not the emerging star’s first destination when the time came to make his name in Europe.
He ended his time at River Plate with 45 goals in 111 games and enjoyed a wonderful start to his time at Porto, scoring in his opening four matches in the Portuguese league in 2009.
His Champions League debut came soon after, as a second-half substitute at Stamford Bridge. Though on that occasion John Terry, Petr Cech, Branislav Ivanovic and co. kept a clean sheet, later the same month Falcao scored his first goal in the competition, against Atletico.

He finished the domestic league campaign with 25 goals and also scored in a Portuguese cup final victory.
The 2010/11 season was another prolific one for the Colombian, who broke Jurgen Klinsmann’s record for the most goals scored in a UEFA Cup/Europa League campaign. His 17 included hat-tricks against Rapid Vienna and Spartak Moscow, before going one better with four goals against Villarreal in the semi-final first leg. For the second year running he was the man for the big occasion when it came to a cup final, netting the only goal of the game in Dublin in an all-Portuguese Europa League decider against Braga.

Falcao also played a major role as Porto won their domestic league, going through the whole season unbeaten.
Having caused Spanish clubs plenty of pain, in the summer of 2011 he crossed the border to become Atletico’s record signing, their choice to take the place of Manchester City-bound Sergio Aguero.
Falcao made his debut in a league game away at Valencia and a week later endeared himself to supporters with a wonderful hat-trick against Racing Santander. His consistency in front of goal was hugely impressive and he quickly became pivotal in Atletico’s attacking play. In a brilliant first season he scored 23 league goals and continued to enjoy a fruitful time in European competition, as top scorer in the Europa League for a second season in a row, including a brace in the final as Atletico beat Athletic Bilbao 3-0 in Bucharest.

That result set-up a meeting with Chelsea in the UEFA Super Cup following our Champions League triumph, and in the game in Monaco it was Falcao who shone brightest as he scored a hat-trick in Atletico’s 4-1 win. A left-footed strike into the top corner from the edge of the penalty area was the stand-out strike and he remains the only player to score a hat-trick in the Super Cup in its current format.

Falcao’s second and final season at Atletico followed a similar pattern to the first. The hat-trick against Chelsea came just four days after he had scored three in their opening home game of the season. In a mid-season 6-0 win over Deportivo La Coruna he scored five.
He was also on target against both Barcelona and Real Madrid in league matches. In the Copa del Rey final against their city rivals, Falcao emphasised he is far more than just a goalscorer with a magnificent piece of play to lay on Atletico’s opening goal for Diego Costa, as they came from behind to lift the trophy.

A move to Monaco in 2013 followed. Falcao scored on his debut against Bordeaux and again a week later against Montpellier, the start of a prolific time in front of goal until an injury sustained in the January ended his campaign prematurely as well as ruling him out of the World Cup in Brazil.
Falcao made his return at the start of last season before a loan move to Manchester United just before the closing of the summer transfer window. He made his Premier League debut in a 4-0 win over Queens Park Rangers, the Old Trafford outfit’s first victory of the season, and scored his first goal in a 2-1 win over Everton.

Man United’s visit to Stamford Bridge in April was his third meeting with the club where he will play his football in the coming season, with Blues players and fans thankful his fierce shot late on in our 1-0 win hit the post.
On the international stage, Falcao scored his first goal for Colombia as a 21-year-old. His first major tournament was the 2011 Copa America, where he scored twice as they reached the quarter-finals.
Although he missed last year’s World Cup through injury, Falcao more than played his part in helping Colombia reach the finals, scoring nine goals in qualification.
He was part of the squad, along with new Chelsea team-mate Juan Cuadrado, involved in the Copa America in Chile.
